Spiritual Self-Assessment
Illness of any kind can take an enormous tool on our spiritual, physical and emotional well-being. Frequently the changes occur slowly and we do not realize when it’s appropriate to seek spiritual support. The spiritual self-assessment inventory can help you evaluate how you perceive yourself from a spiritual perspective.
Reflect on each of the following pairs of spiritual issues in the context of your current life. Mark on the continuum where you feel you are currently.
Despair-------------------------------------Hope Brokenness--------------------------------Wholeness Dread/Fear--------------------------------Courage Meaningless------------------------------Meaningful Guilt/Shame------------------------------Grace Helplessness------------------------------Powerful Loneliness---------------------------------Connected
One or more marks placed to the left of center may indicate it is time to seek spiritual support from a Pastor or a trusted friend.
A Thought On Prayer Not all prayers are words. We can trust God with the unspoken feelings of our hearts and the silent ramblings of our minds. Our groans and grumbling become prayers when shared with God. Our tears of joy, sadness, anger, shame or fear are prayers that cannot be put into words. A smile, a sigh, the pounding of a fist in a pillow; these, too, are understood by the One who cares for us. (A.F. Vrieze)
Word from the Gospels Come to me, all you that are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gently and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
